95 Points - Philip Rich
TarraWarra Estate has some of the oldest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines in the Yarra Valley and has firmly established itself as one of the region's star producers. Creating wines with a minimal intervention, the quality of wines continues to soar under the winemaking of Sarah Fagan.
The Reserve wines reflect the heritage of the single Estate philosophy at TarraWarra, with the first vintage in 1986. The wines represent the best sites from the Estate’s vineyards and are noted for their balance and longevity.
The 2021 TarraWarra's Reserve Pinot Noir opens with notes of poached strawberries, dried flowers, and a touch of amaro. On the palate, it reveals notes of leather, cherry, aniseed, and savoury mushrooms. Further glazed Cherry, game and wood smoke with fresh red fruits and spice. A silky texture with strawberries and cream flows effortlessly into a long finish on this Yarra Valley Pinot Noir of great finesse.
"95 Points. Estate fruit fermented in foudres and matured in a combination of French puncheons and barriques (25% new) for 11 months. A medium ruby crimson. Redolent of wild strawberries, subtle floral notes and Asian spices. It's all there on the palate, too, with excellent depth and persistence and sinewy, gently chewy tannins that will reward with cellar time over the next decade or so. $70. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2022 - 2031. Screwcap"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
