95 Points - Campbell Mattinson
With Shiraz and Riesling being the hero varietals of Best's Great Western, their Cabernet Sauvignon can easily be overlooked. Best's Cabernet regularly delivers one of the finest cool-climate Cabernets in Australia and is a relative bargain given the impeccable pedigree of this wine.
This 2021 Best's Cabernet Sauvignon offers plenty of typical aromas of cassis and blackcurrant that are intertwined with notes of thyme, nutmeg and fresh tobacco leaf. The palate is packed with rich briary fruit flavours, with the fine geometry supple tannins and balancing acidity to give a long finish. A delicious red in its youth, this will undoubtedly cellar beautifully for the next decade.
"95 Points. If this wine auditioned for a role in the film adaptation of 'Remains of the Day' it would get the part in a heartbeat. It's just so exquisitely well mannered. Ultrafine tannin, perfectly ripened fruit, the line of acidity placed just so. Even the oak wraps smokily around the herb notes, as if to ensure that they don't appear too loud. This mid-weight cabernet would make the perfect butler to the finest of meals. Screwcap. 14% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2034."- Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au.
