Blackjack wines describe the Chortle's Edge as their "Monday-to-Thursday wine"; a delightful, medium-bodied style for everyday drinking. The 2024 Blackjack Chortles Edge Shiraz is another Blackjack red wine that well and truly over delivers at its price point. Medium to brick red in colour and somewhat Bordeaux like in terms of structure and flavour profile. Elegant aromas of blackcurrant, tea leaf, cinnamon, nutmeg and spice are present on the nose.
The palate is long, savoury and silky smooth with plenty of fruit woven through quality oak that adds texture and weight. Although this wine is made for drinking in the short term, it will under appropriate conditions, benefit from cellaring for two to three years or more.
"Chortle's Edge is a wine that arose out of a natural disaster, the kind that tests your mettle. It's a wine priced for the everyday and delivers a generosity of shiraz flavour that Bendigo does so well. The palate's soft tannins roll through effortlessly, delivering ripe black fruits and plums, gently spiced, along with earth and autumnal leaf. Easygoing and elegant, it is nicely fleshy moving through the middle palate, ranging long and finishing with a light pepperiness. Top value. 91 Points. 14.5% alc. Drink: 2026 - 2031"- Jeni Port, winecompanion.com.au.
