Castelli Estate has been a long-time favourite winery of ours that's now firmly established itself as a bona fide star of Western Australian wine. The 2017 Castelli Cabernet Sauvignon is another supreme example of Cabernet from the Frankland River region of WA; an area increasingly recognised as home to some exceptional red wines.
A medium-bodied Cabernet, this offers layer upon layer of dark chocolate, sweet blackberries, cassis and liquorice flavours, the fine layered tannins form a solid core that's in perfect harmony with the fruit flavours and carefully measured quality oak. A tiny addition of Malbec offers muscularity and flesh to the mid-palate and rounded support to the tannin backbone.
"95 Points. Roasted spice and toast notes, a slip of reduction too, and then a powerful romp of blackcurrant and violet-like flavour explodes onto the palate. Tannin comes infused with green olive flavours but it's a commanding cabernet, full stop, hands down. $38. 14.6% alc. Drink by 2025" - Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au.
The property was acquired with a semi-complete winery which, with the family’s extensive construction and engineering experience, was later completed in 2006. With a strong commitment to quality, the next twelve months were spent putting together a highly talented winemaking team. The Castelli family enticed winemakers Mike Garland and Andrew Hoadley to come on board in what were the beginnings of one of today’s most promising Western Australian boutique wine brands.
Through our dedicated winemaking team’s extensive experience, the sourcing of the state’s best fruit and the family’s passion and commitment to quality, Castelli Estate’s wines hold the promise of something special.
With our name on every bottle, we are proud to bring you what is synonymous with the Castelli name: a passion for wines that are made with a relentless commitment to quality.
