RRP $35 | 93 Points - James Suckling
Michel Chapoutier is one of France's most prominent winemakers; a seventh-generation member of the Chapoutier family who have been working in the famous Rhone Valley since 1808. Named after the Hermitage commune, Chapoutier established his 'Tournon' label following the purchase of vineyards in Victoria's Heathcote and Pyrenees regions back in 1997.
The organically farmed Shay’s Flat vineyard sits at an altitude of 350 meters in Victoria's Western Pyrenees Ranges. A natural amphitheater with red soils of schist, quartz and rich clay, this consistently produces some outstanding examples of Shiraz.
The 2014 Chapoutier Tournon Shays Flat Shiraz is an aromatic Pyrenees Shiraz with lifted cherry, red berry, spice and white pepper notes on the nose. The palate is generously weighted with plenty of black fruit, liquorice and blackberry flavours that continue to open up with time in the glass. A lovely drinking Shiraz that has plenty of appeal in the short to medium term, this offers fantastic value drinking at this discounted price. Sealed under cork.
"93 Points. Bright and focused shiraz with berry, asphalt and basil-leaf aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Firm and polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows tightness and focus. Soft texture. Drink now or hold"- James Suckling, jamessuckling.com.
