Located approximately 30 minutes north of Canberra in the small rural town of Murrumbateman, Clonakilla is one of the great success stories of Australian wine and home to some of the most impressive red wines made anywhere in the country.
After enduring a horror 2020 vintage, where Clonakilla didn't produce any wines from their Canberra home, the 2021 Hilltops Shiraz will be welcomed by the many fans of this wine. Once again this is made from grapes grown from five selected vineyards throughout the Hilltops region, near Young is the South Western slopes of NSW.
The 2021 Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz is another bright, aromatic release with plenty of cherry and plum notes, with the palate delivering lovely balance and a subtle intensity highlighted by dark berry fruit flavours. Another ripping Hilltops Shiraz that is sure to be popular.
"Medium-bodied, spice and hazelnuts, mint, blueberry and fresh blackberry, a juicy sort of acidity and a firm crunch to tannin, kind of a wheatgerm flavour and texture too, and a bright and meaty peppery finish of good length. Not the most concentrated, but freshness is appealing. 92 Points Tasted: Mar22 13% alc. $32 Screwcap Drink: 2022 - 2027+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
