96+ Points - Erin Larkin
Hailed by critics and wine lovers alike, Dalwhinnie has been growing grapes for nearly 50 years and is now a fully mature vineyard, producing wines that are distinctive, elegant and reflect the benefit of a dry-grown vineyard. Located near the small village of Moonambel in the heart of the Pyrenees region of Western Victoria, this iconic producer consistently delivers some of Australia's most sought-after examples of cool-climate Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
The 2021 Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz has lovely lifted aromas; dark ripe rich and sweetly spiced, intense black cherries and lifted rose petals. A rich wine with an underlying elegance, this has concentrated dark bramble patch fruits, with freshness and incredibly fine skin tannins. The mid palate is full, with remarkable length and plenty of fine, chocolate savoury tannins. As with all great Dalwhinnie Shiraz, this will continue to build over the coming decade.
"96+ Points. The 2021 season here in Moonambel was cooler than 2020, and this is evident both in the aromatics (finer, more graphite, more nuance) and on the palate, which is lighter in weight, more mineral, more finessed. I must confess that this 2021 Moonambel Shiraz is ultimately more my personal style preference with Syrah; however, both wines are side by side in quality and expression. A beautiful wine of place, this will no doubt blossom and evolve prior to its release in the middle of next year. These are special wines."- Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate.
"96 Points. The fine tailoring of this wine is evident from the first glance, with no thread out of place. Immensely fragrant mulberry aromas are enhanced by subtle smoky oak. Piercing red fruits, spun sugar and cherry pie flavours present harmoniously, slipping through the palate with a satin-like flow. Medium bodied, detailed and immensely enjoyable, now or in the future."- Toni Patterson, Halliday Wine Companion.
