Dawson James is an impressive partnership between the experienced winemaker duo of Peter Dawson and Tim James. With grapes grown on the Meadowbank vineyard, approximately 60 kms northwest of Hobart, they continue to produce highly acclaimed cool-climate examples of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The 2020 Dawson James Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine sourced from the Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley in Southern Tasmania. The MV6 and Pommard clone vines were planted in 1989. Opening with aromas of wild strawberries and cranberries with some stalky and savoury oak notes. The palate is quite luscious with a creamy texture and a core of sweet red berry fruit which is supported by fine tannins and a lingering soft acid finish. Fine structure and balanced acidity will see this wine continue to evolve and develop attractive complexity over time.
“96 Points. Rose petal. Dusty red earth and red fruit aromas leap from the glass. The silky seductive palate is all strawberries and cream, framed by gently gripping tannins”- Decanter Magazine August 2022.
“94 Points. Mid-cherry red in hue with inviting notes of macerated wild strawberries and red and dark cherries. A bed of fine spice with hints of forest floor, rose petal, earth, amaro herbs and a waft of Campari-esque stalky complexity. Fine tannins create shape while fine lacy acidity lends vitality and drive, finishing long and pure of fruit”- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 2024.
