95 Points - Jeni Port
Established in the mid-1980s, Delamere became a leading producer of table wines and a premium fruit source for many Tasmanian sparkling programs. In 2008, Fran and Shane, both young winemakers, purchased the property with the sole intention of making Delamere one of Tasmania's premium wines. Over the ensuing years, they have certainly achieved this, with their Pinot Noir particularly outstanding.
The 2024 Delamere Pinot Noir 2024 was hand harvested from blocks on the Delamere vineyard aged from 24 and 43 years old. Typical of the wines of 2024 it has a generous nose of red currant and hints of the richer blue fruits found in a warmer season. It is framed by savoury spice delicate oak tones and just a hint of earthy forest floor. Supporting that is a classic Delamere palate of beautiful savoury tannins and luscious pomegranate acidity.
"95 Points. Strap in, this is some ride. Solid purple hues. So fragrant, so lifted with an aromatic scent delivered on black cherries, red plums, rose petal, dried herbs and hints of green stems and herbals. Upfront in cherry-berry fruits and spice before it starts to go exploring a little further, wider and longer, giving way to leaf, twig, crushed herbs, earth and stems with a touch of amaro bitters. Lean, long and fine in tannin, it offers a highly coherent and complex showcase for the grape in its northern Tasmanian home at Pipers Brook."- Jeni Port, Wine Pilot.
"95 Points. This is the Delamere wine that tells you that Delamere is a top producer. It’s balanced, it’s svelte, it’s well-powered and it’s beautiful. It’s of similar quality, in pure terms, to the $130 Block 8 release but I like it a whole lot more. It’s pure Pinot Noir: berried, polished, attractively spiced, inherently tannic but not at the expense of flow and form. Lovely wine, full stop. Quality."- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
