95+ Points - Philip Rich
Perched on the granite-rich slopes of View Hill, Denton Vineyard is a standout producer in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Established in 1996, this family-owned estate focuses on site-specific wines that reflect their unique volcanic terroir.
The 2024 Denton Estate Pinot Noir is produced from grapes grown on the close-planted Pinot Noir block perched at the top of the northeast-facing slope. The deep-rooted MV6 vines produce Denton’s most powerful and concentrated Pinot Noir.
Opening with a lifted, well-defined bouquet of cranberry, redcurrant, and wild strawberry, accented by notes of rose petals and a hint of earthy sandalwood. The palate is elegant and structured, showing savory red cherry and rhubarb flavors. It features a crunchy acidity and fine, gently gripping tannins that provide excellent shape.
"95+ Points. From a single block, planted with MV6 in 2004. Significantly better than the '24 Shed Pinot Noir and for not a whole lot more in price. A bright ruby-red colour precedes a well-defined bouquet of redcurrant and cranberry together with summer flowers. The palate is elegant, with gently crunchy tannins rounding out a very well-put-together wine to drink now and over the next three to five years at least. 13.8%. Screwcap. Drink: 2025 - 2030"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
