"Excellent Release" - Campbell Mattinson
Dexter Wines is the project of Tod Dexter who has several decades winemaking experience in the Mornington Peninsula, most notably at Stonier and Yabby Lake. Suffice to say, Tod brings some real winemaking pedigree to this personal venture that is reflected in the exceptional quality of his wines.
This 2019 Dexter Pinot Noir is another mouth-wateringly delicious Mornington Peninsula with the complexity and structure found in only the finest Australian Pinot Noir. It offers complex flavours of blackberries, plums, spices and hints of oak, with a lovely subtle texture and a long finish.
"94 Points. Excellent release. Firm, spicy and a touch meaty, in a positive way, with graphite and succulent poached strawberry flavours putting on a confident display. There are mint notes here and a touch of warmth too, along with plum, along with roasted nut. Balance here is key; everything here feels poised and placed with care. It’s a lovely drink now but it will age. Tasted: Mar21 13.5% alc. $60 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2031"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
Dexter Wines is the culmination of Tod and Debbie Dexter’s lifetime ambition to make ultra-premium, single vineyard wines through careful farming of their own patch of dirt on the Mornington Peninsula.
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were chosen as the most applicable varieties to represent and reflect the unique characteristics of the Dexter site. This exceptional site, combined with over 40 years of winemaking experience, delivers world-class wines ready to drink now or after many years of careful cellaring.
