Dog Point Vineyard is situated in the Wairau Valley, the major grape growing region of New Zealand. It combines the considerable wine growing experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy, formerly of the famous Cloudy Bay winery. The philosophy of Dog Point Wines is total involvement by the partners from the vineyard through the wine making process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.
This 2018 Dog Point Pinot Noir is another benchmark Marlborough Pinot Noir offering up some superb red fruit and delicate floral aromas. The palate is impressively concentrated with pure red berry notes, spice, subtle tannin and impeccable balance.

"95 Points. Of the new releases from Dog Point this wine was the pick. But if you plan on drinking it young give it some air, either in the glass or a decanter to enjoy all it has to offer. Bright mid cherry red in colour, it opens up with aromas of the forrest – spice, earth, truffle and undergrowth providing a savoury start. But then pretty aromatic fruits start to emerge – beetroot, dark cherry, star anise and potpourri all underpinned by well chosen oak. It is beautifully complex and, most of all, superbly balanced. The palate continues on that earthy, brooding line with tobacco, stalk and spice offset by fleshy dark cherry fruits. The name Dog Point dates from the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. Shepherds' dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off and eventually bred into a marauding pack which attacked local flocks. Their home was a tussock and scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early settlers as Dog Point.

Dog Point consistently deliver some of the Marlborough region's finest wines with their Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay always among the standouts. Dog Point's Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is their barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc that usually sees around 18 months in older French oak; delivering a level of complexity and flavour intensity rarely achieved in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
