97 Points - Shanteh Wale
The Dog Point Vineyard in Marlborough was established in 2004 by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland, along with James and Wendy Healy. Prior to forming Dog Point, Ivan Sutherland served as the founding viticulturist at Cloudy Bay, while James Healy was the winery’s head winemaker.
Over the past couple of decades Dog Point has developed an enviable reputation, with their Sauvignon Blanc consistently rated among the nation's finest. Certified organic, the 2024 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc delivers the vibrancy, balance and underlying complexity that have long been associated with this benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
The 2024 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc opens with lifted aromatics of grapefruit and white peach, the palate is juicy with intense citrus and tropical fruit (melon and guava) flavours. A beautifully balanced and refined Sauvignon Blanc, this will only enhance the reputation of this Marlborough producer.
"97 Points. A washing line of fresh linen, spring daisies and gently waving buffalo grass. There is lemon posset, limestone, chalk and grapefruit skin. Citrus and white stone fruit flavours centre deeply in the mid-palate, with a tantalising amount of fresh fruit sweetness and cascading and yet tapered acidity. This is just a top-notch white wine, full stop. Detailed, layered and moreish in every sense of the word. Close your eyes and take in the pretty aromas, taste the sandy dry mineral tones, consider the palate length and quality and you know you can only be drinking Dog Point from their esteemed Wairau sites in Marlborough. The savoury cream tones add further complexity and finesse. This is a global benchmark for sauvignon blanc. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2030. Screwcap"- Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion.
"94 Points. An absolute stand-out wine from the 2024 vintage, this has all of the telltale Dog Point flinty reduction which seems to mark all of their wines. This is made from Dog Point’s organic parcels and is a wine which has a good track record of ageing in the mid-term. Distinctive reduction on the nose leads to quite a structured palate with layered complexity over a ripe core of apple. Young, tight and with very good concentration, this is classic, displaying lovely balance and length on the pure, precise finish where a touch of minerality emerges. Screwcap. 13.5% alc. Now to 2028"- Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review.
