New Vintage Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc
Over the past decade Dog Point Wines has established itself as one of New Zealand's leading wineries, with their Sauvignon Blanc consistently rated among the nation's finest. The newly released 2020 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is another brilliant example that combines the vibrancy, balance and underlying complexity that have made previous vintage so popular.
"94 Points. I challenge anyone who says they are not fans of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to not be impressed by this superb example. It shows the power and fruit concentration that only comes from plenty of work in the vineyard. Pale in colour and deliciously aromatic, it shows powerful guava and nettle fruits plus a mineral tang that adds a savoury edge. The palate is then explosive - beautifully ripened melon and passionfruit with just a touch of florals in a mouthfilling style with silky, balanced acidity to draw out a long finish. Stunning."- Angus Hughson, winepilot.com.
The name Dog Point dates from the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. Shepherds' dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off and eventually bred into a marauding pack which attacked local flocks. Their home was a tussock and scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early settlers as Dog Point.
Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable wine-growing experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and, James and Wendy Healy. Total involvement by the partners from the vineyard to the winemaking process through to the marketing of their regionally distinctive wines, ensures that Dog Point Vineyards remains a boutique and family oriented business producing wines with a clear point of difference.
Dog Point consistently deliver some of the Marlborough region's finest wines with their Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay always among the standouts. Dog Point's Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is their barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc that usually sees around 18 months in older French oak; delivering a level of complexity and flavour intensity rarely achieved in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
