97 Points - James Halliday
Morus is Domaine Naturaliste's finest cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon and a wine that has established itself among the elite bracket of Australian Cabernet. A single vineyard selection of the prized 'Houghton clone' first planted in 1978, these fully mature and majestic vines are some of the oldest in Margaret River.
We've just secured a tiny allocation of 2016 Domaine Naturaliste Morus Cabernet Sauvignon; a wine that has been widely acclaimed as one of the finest releases under this label. A wine of impeccable structure and intensity, this is a must-have addition to the cellar for any lover of premium Margaret River Cabernet.
"97 Points. Part of the fruit comes from the Roche clone planted in ‘98, part from an earlier planting ('82), 55% matured in new French oak. A further year passed before it was released, and another 20-30 years will pass before the wine reaches its zenith. It is exceptionally long and intense, its balance flawless. 13.5% alc. Drink By 2046 Cork" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
'97 Points. Deep, rich red colour with tinges of brick and purple in the rim. The bouquet is rich and chocolate-vanillan with echoes of cedar, violets and underbrush. The palate adds blackberry and lashings of ripe tannins, the middle fleshy and generous, the finish firm, with good length. A very smart cabernet that will respond well to cellaring. Move over, Médoc! 13.5% alc. $89'- Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
Domaine Naturaliste is the project of highly experienced winemaker Bruce Dukes.
