"Great Value"- Philip Rich
Dominique Portet was established following 10 consecutive generations of winemaking in the Portet family, stretching back to the 18th century. Dominique went to start his own dream and established Taltarni in 1976 then later Clover Hill In north-east Tasmania. Dominique Portet is now one of the Yarra Valley's leading wineries, with their 'Fontaine' range of wines consistently delivering high quality at very reasonable prices.
The 2020 Dominique Portet Fontaine Cabernet Sauvignon is another soft and medium-bodied example of Yarra Valley Cabernet. This offers plenty of plum and berry fruit flavours supported by lively fresh acidity and restrained oak. A lovely drinking Cabernet ideal for enjoying in the short to medium term, this is a relative bargain for a Yarra Cabernet.
"With 12% merlot and the all-important 2% malbec and 1% cabernet franc! Matured in French barrels for 14 months (20% new). A medium crimson. Lifted and attractive nose redolent of boysenberries and other briary fruits. A simply delicious and approachable medium-bodied wine with fresh fruit, supple tannins and moreish acidity. Great value. 93 Points. Drink by: 2026. 13% alc. Screwcap."- Philip Rich, winecompanion.com.au.
