95 Points - James Halliday
Dune is the project of Duncan and Peter Lloyd; the next generation of this famous winemaking family of Coriole fame. Sourcing fruit from a single vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale, Dune is quickly establishing itself as one of the region's wineries to watch.
The 2022 Dune Blewitt Springs Shiraz is afforded plenty of care of attention, made using a combination of whole-bunch, whole-berry and crushed fruit, which was matured in seasoned oak for 12 months. This has resulted in a medium bodied, savoury and textured wine packed with plenty of plush red fruit, layers of mulberry, dark cherry, licorice and some dark chocolate notes. A delicious drinking Shiraz with excellent complexity and impressive length, this is an absolute bargain at this price.
"95 Points. Deeply coloured; full, rich flavours of velvety black cherry, blackberry and spice all-sorts, with tannins so round they disappear in the black fruits. Oh-so-easy to swallow if that wasn’t forbidden."- James Halliday, The Australian.
"94 Points. Perfumed, nutty, meaty, black fruit. Medium to full-bodied, again quite umami with some nori flavour, choc-hazelnut and juicy dark cherry, dry spice, fleshy and creamy tannin, good length with it. Quite ferrous, but also floral. Lovely wine. I often ponder the absurdity of assigning scores to wines, so this is either 93 or 94 points. I can’t quite decide. Tasted: Oct23 14.2% alc. $28 Screwcap Drink: 2023 - 2030"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
