Flametree Wines has firmly established itself as one of the star wineries of the Margaret River wine region. Under the skilled winemaking of Cliff Royle (ex-Voyager Estate) the quality of Flametree wines continue to impress.
The 2019 Flametree Chardonnay is another high quality Margaret River Chardonnay offering an excellent combination of fruit flavours and structure associated with southern Margaret River Chardonnays. Dried pear, grapefruit, melon and fig flavours are supported by some subtle, high quality French oak. The palate is textured and savoury, a result of wild ferment, solids and lees stirring. A delicious drinking Margaret River Chardonnay at a very reasonable price.
"95 Points. Fruit from 5 vineyards: Warner Glen, Eddinger Estate (block 4), Chapman Grove and Redgate in the south and Cullen (Treeton) in the north. Natural acid, 15% mlf, lees stirred every 3-4 weeks, 9 months in oak. Compelling struck-match nose. Silky, viscose palate- rounded almost, shaped by phenolic edge and grip. Flinty and mineral, but with hallmark yellow peach, pink grapefruit and curry leaf. Rounding out in a tight back palate and defined by saline acid. Tremendous value at the price! $29. 13.2% alc. Drink: 2030. Screwcap."- Erin Larkin, winecompanion.com.au.
"95 Points. ★★★★★ It’s astonishing that Flametree’s Cliff Royle can turn out such beautiful chardonnay at the price. His SRS Wallcliffe is even better but more than twice the price. The bouquet is reserved but complex, lightly smoky, touched with passionfruit and grapefruit. It’s light to medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, intense and refined with gorgeous flavour and drinkability. $29. Screwcap. 13% alc. Ageing: drink now to 10 years Food: Steamed prawns with beurre blanc" - Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
