97 Points - James Halliday
Established in 1979 by Geoff and Susan Bell, Freycinet were early viticultural pioneers on the East Coast of Tasmania. Consistently delivering some of Tasmania's finest wines, these continue to be 100% grown, produced and bottled on the family-owned estate.
The 2023 Freycinet Riesling is another sublime Tasmanian Riesling opening with lifted floral aromatics of orange bloom and gardenia. The vibrant yet elegant palate offers a heady mix of citrus, green apple, white nectarine and gentle spice, complemented by a crisp and refreshing minerality. While drinking beautifully now, this is sure to have a long life ahead of it in the cellar.
"97 Points. The east coast of Tasmania provided riesling of great distinction this vintage. From Freycinet comes this wine – its power, focus and intensity all of the highest quality. The lime/lemon fruit duo stare down the glittering acidity, the lingering aftertaste bright and fresh. $36. 12.5% alc. Drink to 2043"- James Halliday, Top 100 Wines 2023, The Weekend Australian.
