97 Points - Philip Rich
Giant Steps has forged a reputation as one of the Yarra Valley's leading wineries, with their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay consistently among the nation's finest examples. Named 'Winery Of The Year' in the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion, Giant Steps continues to produce some stunning cool-climate wines.
Located on the steep, north-facing slopes of the Warramate Ranges, the Sexton vineyard was planted in 1997 by Giant Steps founder Phil Sexton. Always one of the most expressive, generous, and punchy single-vineyard Chardonnays from Giant Steps, the 2025 Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay is again in superb form.
"97 Points. A blend of Gingin and Bernard clones planted in '97 in Gruyere. Fermented and matured in mainly puncheons and one new 1200L foudre. Expressive with aromas of stone fruits, candied ginger, grapefruit and roasted hazelnut. Just as good on the beautifully concentrated mid-palate, finishing with mouth-watering acidity on the very long, pithy finish. An excellent Sexton to drink now and over the next 6-8 years. Screw cap. 13% alc. Drink: 2026 - 2034. $95"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
