The Glaetzer mission is to focus, simply on the production of small-volume, super premium Barossa Valley wine. The company holds a firm belief that the wines are made in the vineyard - a combination of the French notion terroir and Australian vineyard site knowledge.
Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish. Exceptional old-vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 35 - 120 years old. The 2019 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz is vibrant purple in the glass, with hints of cut plum, dried spice and dark chocolate. It has great mid-palate freshness with flavours of blackcurrant and mocha. Finely tuned tannins provide structure and length.
"The 2019 Bishop Shiraz is all Shiraz and all from the Ebenezer district of the northern Barossa Valley. Aged almost exclusively in second, third and fourth use oak (mostly French), it features slight herbal overtones to the black cherry and black olive notes. It’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, supple, generous and reasonably concentrated, folding in hints of peppery spice and mocha shadings on the velvety, mouthwatering finish. 91 points"- Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate September 2021.
The Glaetzer family has been a part of the Barossa Valley and its viticulture history since 1888. After thirty years of winemaking, Colin Glaetzer established the family winery to create wines he's passionate about - limited quantities of benchmark Barossa Valley reds. Today, his son Ben carries on this winemaking tradition at Glaetzer Wines.
Glaetzer Wines holds a firm belief that the wines are made in the vineyard - a combination of the French notion 'terroir' and Australian vineyard site knowledge. All grapes for Glaetzer Wines are taken from the small sub-region of the northern Barossa Valley, called Ebenezer.
These ancient dry-grown vineyards of the Ebenezer district are an important part of Australia’s winemaking heritage and a living link to traditional Barossa viticulture.
Exceptional fruit from a loyal group of third and fourth generation Barossa grape growers is the backbone of Glaetzer wines, allowing them to produce an impressive range of red wines. This includes the always popular Wallace Shiraz Grenache, Bishop Shiraz and the flagship Glaetzer Amon Ra Shiraz.
