95 Points - Nick Stock
Greywacke is the venture of Kevin Judd, former winemaker at Cloudy Bay for twenty five years and in the process established it as the world's most famous wineries. The Greywacke wines are made by Kevin at Dog Point Winery in the lower Brancott Valley, a facility extended to him by long-standing friends and industry colleagues, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy.
This 2017 Greywacke Pinot Noir is another exceptional Pinot release from the team at Greywacke; a highly perfumed style of Marlborough Pinot Noir featuring exotic fruit sweetness, a cedar-like spiciness and a delicate smoky scent reminiscent of lapsang souchong. The palate is dense and generous with ripe cherry-plum richness, some soft licorice and clove and a fine but voluptuous tannin structure.
‘95 Points. A very complex and well-executed style that has everything from crushed violets to cherries, blueberries, tar, Christmas spice, earthy notes, plums, sappy nuances and more. The palate has a sleek, succulent feel with very plush, smooth tannins, drawing the fruit effortlessly deep. (Rated 43rd), Top 100 New Zealand Wines 2019." - Nick Stock, Jamessuckling.com.
"a fragrant and flavoursome pinot noir with plum, raspberry, wood smoke, cedar and subtle floral flavours. It’s a medium-bodied wine, with a backbone of fine tannins that perfectly balance fruit sweetness. Accessible now but with cellaring potential."- Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review.
As you would expect from the founding winemaker of New Zealand’s most famous wine, the quality throughout the Greywacke range is exceptional. Not satisfied with being one of the country's most influential winemakers, Kevin is also one of the world’s premier wine and vineyard photographers.
