95 Points - Shanteh Wale
Greywacke is the venture of Kevin Judd, former winemaker at Cloudy Bay for twenty five years and in the process established it as the world's most famous wineries. The Greywacke wines are made by Kevin at Dog Point Winery in the lower Brancott Valley, a facility extended to him by long-standing friends and industry colleagues, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy.
This 2023 Greywacke Pinot Noir is another exceptional Pinot release from the team at Greywacke; a highly perfumed style of Marlborough Pinot Noir featuring exotic fruit sweetness, a cedar-like spiciness and a delicate smoky scent reminiscent of lapsang souchong. The palate is dense and generous with ripe cherry-plum richness, some soft licorice and clove and a fine but voluptuous tannin structure.
"95 Points. Beautifully fragrant, this opens with fresh violets and just-picked cherries. Some lavender and rosehip. Boysenberries and oolong tea leaves. Some star anise spice. Fruit is very youthful, tannins graze at the edges of the palate, and acidity glides through. This is well packaged as a whole, slinky, juicy and with just enough savoury turned-earth tones to anchor the oak spice. Some granitic soil and cherry pit to finish."- Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion.
