Greywacke is the venture of Kevin Judd, former winemaker at Cloudy Bay for twenty five years and in the process established it as the world's most famous Sauvignon Blanc producer. The Greywacke wines are made by Kevin at Dog Point Winery in the lower Brancott Valley, a facility extended to him by long-standing friends and industry colleagues, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy.
The 2021 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc is another textural, flavoursome and complex Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that is sure to win many fans with its effortless power and balance. A vibrant mix of nectarines, yellow peaches and cassis combines with the bright fragrance of lemon zest laced with musky, jasmine-like floral nuances. The palate is packed with ripe stone fruit, melons and mandarin creating a succulent tropical-fruited style with that classic Marlborough zing.
"97 Points. A classic, pure, Loire-like wine on the nose with fragrant lemongrass, jasmine and redcurrant aromas and smoky complexity that keeps unfolding with time in the glass. It's so concentrated as to almost taste sweet initially. The palate is viscous and potent, has a remarkable texture with striking power and length. Very impressive and worth making a fuss about.’- Bennet & Hudson, Winerater.co.nz.
"A more classic expression here but you get the feeling quality of fruit and winemaking is pretty high. It should be with that Kevin Judd DNA written into Greywacke lore. Juicy and bright. A lively, fresh and youthful expression that does tropical fruits and grassiness well but tames it nicely and delivers a taut and vibrant wine of purity with light herbal interplay. Delightful, is the final message. 93 Points Tasted: Jun-22 13.5% alc. $25.00 Screwcap Drink: 2022 - 2025"- Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
