The Henschke family have been making wine since Johann Henschke planted his first vineyard in South Australia’s Eden Valley in the early 1860's. Today, fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist wife Prue are recognised around the world for their exceptional quality wines, innovation and sustainability practices in their vineyards.
A blend of Barossa Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Viognier, the 2019 Henschke 'Henry's Seven' is again in cracking form offering lifted aromas of plum, red currant and black berry fruits. The round supple palate is filled with juicy blue and red fruits, spiced plum, liquorice and beautifully textured svelte tannins. A high-quality wine from one of Australia's finest red wine makers, this offers super value at this discounted price.
"92 Points. In the Henschke range this is the party wine that radiates Barossa personality and is chock-a-block full of mouth filling, generous and supple fruit for drinking right now. Barossa shiraz, grenache and mataro have been blended with a splash of viognier to give this wine instant appeal and good complexity. Open knit, bright and jubey Barossa blackberry and baked earthy fruits are lifted by nice touches of raspberry, sage and white pepper. It’s also fleshy and vibrant in the mouth – again layers of dark berry fruit with subtle oak are supported by soft tannins to give great drinkability. Enjoy it with roast beef. $37. Drink: 2021 - 2026"- Angus Hughson, winepilot.com.
"This is sweet at its heart and soft and lush. It’s silky textured, generous in a way, has some nice tightening tannins and a brisk, tart finish for freshness. Mixed forest berries, that kind of heady, sweet woody spice thing, a bit of apricot, and, certainly a slickness and sweetness mid palate that says something about the white grape viognier. Easy drinking, enough structure to take you to level 2. 91 Points MAR21 14.5% alc. $37 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2027" - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
The acclaimed Henschke family, foundation members of Australia’s First Families of Wine, arrived in South Australia in 1841 after Johann Christian Henschke migrated from Silesia (Germany). Each generation has contributed to the legend with fourth generation Cyril Henschke pioneering varietal, single-vineyard wines in the 1950s, most famously Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace Shiraz.
Fifth Generation winemaker Stephen and his viticulturist wife Prue have won many awards for their talent, innovation and integration of vineyard and winery. They lead the way with biodynamic and organic principles. Henschke wines are hand crafted and deeply personal, reflecting the unique terroir of vineyards: the wine names tell either a personal story of the family or the cultural history of their region.
