Howard Park's 'Leston' label showcases the classic regional characters of Margaret River grapes. This 2016 Howard Park Leston Shiraz was produced from a selection of the best batches of Shiraz grown on Howard Park's Leston vineyard, specifically block 17 and 4, which is located in the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River
The maritime climate and gravelly bony soils of the region produce low-yields of concentrated rich fruit-driven wine typical of Margaret River Shiraz. Matured in new and second use oak barriques for 18 months, this is a top quality Margaret River Shiraz with a long life ahead of it.
"The 15th review of a Leston Margaret River Shiraz on this site; we’ve missed a couple along the way though we’ve covered most of them. It’s always consistently good, though rarely stellar. This release continues that form though it sits near the upper end of its usual quality band. It boasts more complexity than many a Margaret River shiraz: this tastes of berries and cloves though there are earth, game and coffee ground flavours too. It feels silken as it rolls along the tongue, the finish then slightly warm(ing). Tannin is silty. In all, it’s a very good release. 92+ Points Tasted : Aug18 Alcohol: 14.5% Price: $50 Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2028+" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
