95 Points - Tyson Stelzer
JJ Hahn is a result of a partnership with popular winemaker Rolf Binder and the Hahn family who have been growing grapes in the Barossa since 1845. JJ Hahn are known for producing consistently high quality reds and great price and this 2017 JJ Hahn Western Ridge 1975 Plantings Shiraz is another brilliant Barossa Shiraz.
This single vineyard Shiraz sourced from the Rolf Binder estate on the Barossa’s Western Ridge sub region, really shows off the richness of old vine Barossa Shiraz with its layers of ripe concentrated red fruit characters mixed with elements of minerals and ironstone drawn up from the roots driving deep into the sandy red loam soils.
"95 Points. Hand harvested. Matured in French and American oak barrels. Benchmark Barossa shiraz. Rolf Binder has set off the spicy black fruits that characterise the western Barossa with an impressive framework of classy oak structure. Old vines deliver all the density and depth expected, enlivened by a stream of natural acidity that sets a long finish and great potential. $45. 14% alc. Screwcap.
