Established in 1890, the iconic Kay Brothers Amery winery is one of Australia's most historically significant wineries - utilising many of the same practices it did during its formative years. Remarkably this McLaren Vale treasure remains in the founding family hands, with Colin Kay currently at the helm.
Only made in years deemed worthy, the 2018 Kay Brothers Cuthbert Cabernet Sauvignon in only the 9th release of this commemorative flagship Cabernet made at Kay Brothers. Open fermented, basket pressed and aged in new French and Bulgarian oak for twenty months, this is a McLaren Vale Cabernet with surprising approachability; combining rich, vibrant fruit with great structure and well-handled oak.
"94 Points. I always enjoy this wine. So much personality, and not just because you have to love a wine called ‘Cuthbert’. Blackberry, hazelnut, some mint and aniseed, oyster shell and spice. It’s medium to full-bodied, dense and savoury, love the umami flavours here, balanced acidity, the grainy yet ripe tannin profile, and saline nutty dark chocolate finish of excellent length. Excellent. So regional and distinctive. Tasted: Mar22 13.5% alc. $49 Screwcap Drink: 2024 - 2036+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
