94 Points - Ray Jordan
Kilikanoon is one of the shining lights of the Clare Valley, consistently producing some of the finest examples of the region's hero varietals, with their Riesling always among the standouts.
The 2023 Kilikanoon 'Mort's Block' Watervale Riesling is another intensely focused and flavoured Clare Valley Riesling. Wonderfully perfumed this offers plenty of lemon, lime and apple flavours; the length and complexity make it a standout example either as a drink-now or cellar proposition.
"94 Points. Consistently one of the best Rieslings from the Clare Valley, this comes from a low-yielding block in the Watervale subregion. It displays those crisp lemon rind and spicy characters of Riesling with lifted floral notes. The palate shows a degree of tension as it pushes through to a very long finish. Love that crisp mouthwatering crunchy acidity that finishes on a mineral note. Has the fruit and the structure to support cellaring. $25. Drink: 2024 - 2036"- Ray Jordan, winepilot.com.
"93 Points. The regional stamp of cut-lime fruit - intense cordial-like and zesty - runs strong in this Riesling. It’s there in the swirl of citrus on the aroma together with citrus blossom and talc. It holds court on the palate, a pivotal focus of the wine, together with a racy acidity that helps drives the wine. Lime juice, lime cordial, fennel and lemon sorbet mingle with apple flavours, full of energy and brio. It moves fast and furious, ideal sans food or bent to the demands of fresh shellfish. The Reserve Mort’s Block may be the producer’s Riesling flagship, but its well-priced junior sibling offers a cracker everyday Riesling experience. $25. Drink: 2024 - 2033"- Jeni Port, winepilot.com.
