New Vintage | "It’s so darn yum!" - Gary Walsh
Longhop is the impressive partnership of Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland; designed to showcase what the Adelaide Plains and adjoining Mt Lofty Ranges regions does best. Sourcing precious old vine "survival plantings" of the 1950's coupled with a non-interventional approach to winemaking, the wines of Longhop are always generously flavoured and packed with personality.
This 2019 Longhop Shiraz is another cracking release, delivering a full bodied red wine with plenty of chocolate, dark plum, leather, mulberry and spice. A wine that will offer plenty of drinking pleasure over the next few years, this is a bargain red at this discounted price.
"How bloody good is Dom Torzi? National treasure. Also, best black olives in the business. And the tapenade is off the charts. This is lush stuff. True neck oil. Easy drinking, dark fruited, ripe, sweet, spicy, soft and pillowy. A kind of rustic charm and do damn honest. Booze soaked berries and dark chocolate blitzed for your pleasure. Straight up delicious. It’s big and brassy and clumsy and cuddly. It’s so darn yum! 90 Points Tasted: MAY21 14.5% alc. $20 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2026"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
"It’s such a substantial red. Thick and grainy, with a real black fruit profile, the palate is so deep and dark and long. It gets a bit heavy on the finish, but that just adds to the intensity. $20? There are $50 reds with less intensity than this. It’s a bit rough and tumble on the finish, but that just adds to the charm. Bargain. I was almost at 93 on the score too. Best drinking: now to ten years plus. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14.5%, $20." - Andrew Graham, www.ozwinereview.com
Longhop is the impressive partnership of Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland. The former Gawler high school mates seized upon an idea in 2002 of salvaging some of the last remaining old vine vineyards in the Adelaide Plains and making icon wines from that region.
Vineyards were secured, old vines a priority. Their small band of growers have embraced the ideal of delivering premium grapes in order to showcase the power and rich fruit flavours the Adelaide Plains and adjoining Mt Lofty Ranges has to offer.
The wines are made with minimal intervention and tradition techniques; open fermented and basket pressed. No fining or filtration is used prior to bottling.
