Moss Wood have an internationally recognised reputation for producing some of the finest examples of Cabernet outside of Bordeaux. Designed to be balanced and drinkable as a younger wine, the 2021 Moss Wood Amy's is Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot.
The result is a highly appealing red with generous fruit depth, an abundance of varietal blackcurrant, violets and red fruits, with the subtle oak playing a mere support role. A high-quality red wine from one of Australia's leading wineries, this is a wine of enormous appeal particularly at this price.
"94 Points. A 68/20/7/5 per cent blend of estate-grown cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot, its colour is bright, fresh crimson, the bouquet fragrant, and the palate is already complete and balanced. It is purpose-built for consumption over the next three or four years, but if for any reason it’s left unopened for 10 years it will be still fresh. Drink to 2029"- James Halliday, The Weekend Australian Magazine, June 2023.
"Ripe and pungent, fruity and complex, aromas of blue and red berry fruits, barrel spices, a touch of chocolate and a savoury herbaceous complexity. Youthful, vibrant and enticing. Plush, ripe red berry and plum fruit flavours touch the palate first followed by black currant, blackberry and red apple skin. rose and oak flavours meld together. A bold structure from tannins and acidity with oak set the structure in place and for power and ageing. A vibrant youthful expression with time on its side. Drinkable today with high protein fare, or best cellared till 2026 then drinking through 2036+. 93 Points. Excellent."- Cameron Douglas, camdouglasms.com.
"Moss Wood Amy’s 2021 delivers a lot of wine for the price. It’s a Cabernet led blend made in a drink now style. A full bodied wine with juicy, succulent fruit complimented by balancing freshness on the finish. There’s great depth to the fruit but also tar and leather to make it interesting so this not a one dimensional fruit bomb. The blend is 68% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. Moss Wood are one of Australia’s greatest Cabernet winemakers and Amy’s is your best chance to taste that magic for $40 a bottle. This is a Bordeaux blend at it’s most accessible, plush and generous with soft tannins. Unquestionably delicious!"- Fergal Gleeson, Great Wine Blog.
