96 Points - Sam Kim
Established in 1969, Moss Wood is a pioneering icon of Margaret River, renowned for its meticulous, dry-grown viticulture and elegant, age-worthy wines. While world-famous for Cabernet Sauvignon, their passion for Pinot Noir takes a fresh turn with the 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir.
Sourced from the cool-climate Karridale sub-region, some 60 kilometres south of Moss Wood’s Wilyabrup base, 'Autrement' (meaning "in another way") offers a vibrant alternative to their estate style. It features bright red-fruit notes of strawberry and cherry, layered with savory mushroom and forest floor, finishing with supple tannins and refreshing acidity.
"96 Points. Sweetly fruited with savoury nuances, the fragrant bouquet shows dark plum, cured meat, warm mushroom, baking spice, and toasted almond characters, followed by a silky-smooth palate that’s succulent and beautifully weighted. It’s wonderfully structured with refreshing acidity and grainy tannins, finishing lingering and delectable. At its best: 2028 to 2036."- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.
"94 Points. The name “Autrement,” meaning “in another way” in French, reflects Moss Wood’s journey in Pinot Noir discovery. This wine is crafted from fruit sourced in the southern Karridale region, 60 kilometers south of Moss Wood’s Wilyabrup base. Moss Wood has a history of exploring pinot noir from different regions, including Pemberton (1991–2003) and Mornington Peninsula (2008–2010). In 2024, a hot season, the southern vineyards performed admirably. The wine is made from three different clones, contributing to its complexity. It displays a bright crimson colour and a nose dominated by primary red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries, with a faint hint of truffle. The palate is structured with a bony thread typical of Pinot Noir, balanced by good fruit density and juiciness. Flavours of red fruits, dried herbs, and truffle create a compelling combination. Enjoyable for early or medium-term drinking, it also has the structure to age gracefully."- Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot.
