94 Points - James Halliday
Mount Avoca is one of the more impressive wineries in the Pyrenees region of Central Victoria; their entry-level 'Moates Lane' range of wines offer some impressive quality drinking at a great value price.
A well balanced, medium-bodied cool climate red, this 2018 Mount Avoca Moates Lane Cabernet Sauvignon offers plenty of varietal blackcurrant, plum, liquorice, dark chocolate, and cigar box flavours. Offering a well-rounded mouthfeel and some soft subtle tannin, this is an approachable Cabernet that drinks at a quality well above its asking price.
"94 Points. Bright, full purple-crimson; tasted immediately post-bottling, and the tannins were exercising themselves. Once they've settled down - and they will in a year to so - this could be a special wine as abundant cassis takes centre stage. Screwcap. 13% alc. To 2029. $21." - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2020.
