Oakridge has long been considered one of the stars of the Yarra Valley and among the finest cool climate winemakers in Australia. The 'Vineyard Series' explores the unique 'terroir' of individual Yarra Valley sites; with grapes for this Pinot Noir grown on Oakridge's north-facing Hazeldene vineyard on the red volcanic soils of Gladydale.
This 2022 Oakridge Hazeldene Pinot Noir is another complex, flavoursome offering with impressive depth and wide appeal. Opening with lovely aromatics, there's plenty of fruits of the forest, red berry, a hint of pomegranate along with a touch of Chinese five spice.
The palate has a great vibrancy of fruit flavour that is balanced perfectly with supple fruit tannins, raspberry and dark cherry flavours abound with a bright acid line in support and providing drive. A high quality single vineyard Yarra Pinot Noir that offers exceptional value-for-money at this price.
"95 Points. From '98 plantings of MV6 at Gladysdale; 30 per cent whole bunches. Matured in 300L and 500L casks (less than 10 per cent new). Pretty and delicate with its aromas of alpine strawberries, rose petal and spice. More depth than the '21. Impeccably balanced and light on its feet, fine grained and ever so gently chewy tannins round out a wine that's approachable now but will keep. $48. Drink to 2029"- Philip Rich, winecompanion.com.au.
