97 Points - Marcus Ellis
Paralian Wines is the partnership of winemakers Charlie Seppelt and Skye Salter, who met in 2008 while working at Hardy's Tintara in McLaren Vale. Establishing their Paralian Wines project in 2018, they seek to explore specific vineyard sites in the northern reaches of South Australia's McLaren Vale region.
The 2024 Paralian Springs Hill Vineyard Shiraz is a single vineyard shiraz made from grapes grown on the Springs Hill vineyard in Blewitt Springs. A sublime expression of Blewitt Springs Shiraz this is packed with vibrant blue fruits, blackcurrant, dark chocolate flavours, which are supported by subtle spice, pepper and quality oak. Finishing with wonderful depth and a seemingly effortless balance, this a McLaren Vale Shiraz with plenty of wow factor.
"97 Points. From '75 and '98 plantings on the Springs Hill vineyard. The '24 Paralian suite, for me, is the finest to date. All killer, as they say … The quiet power in this is something to behold - a wine of gravitas and grace. It comes in a little darker of fruit this year, though not heavy with it. Dried olive, black cherry, violet, blueberry, ground coffee, a certain sultry floral and spicy feel, with an undercurrent of nori and iodine. This is a marvellous expression, with finely tooled tannins and exceptional length. Simply brilliant. 14% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2038. 14% alc. $48. Screwcap"- Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion.
"95+ Points. Quite some colour here – so much purpleness. Blackberry, grilled meat with cracked black pepper, a dried herb and flower perfume, seaweed and Dutch liquorice. It’s medium-bodied, yet dense and meaty, black olive and savoury things, though the core is all sweet dark fruit of intensity and concentration, ironstone and chamois-like grip to tannin, blueberry with some spicy pie crust, and a saline finish of super length. This is so impressive, and all things considered, modestly priced. Tasted: Jul25. 14% alc. $48. Screwcap Drink: 2026 - 2036+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
