Right from its early genesis, Provenance Wines has existed to achieve one simple goal; to make great wines that reveal the fruit quality of special vineyards. The search for vineyards of special provenance began in the mid '90s when winemaker Scott Ireland settled in the Geelong region. Keen to work with excellent vineyards west and south of Melbourne, it didn't take long for him to realise the great potential that existed in bringing together a patchwork quilt of select vineyards from surrounding areas; hence Provenance Wines was born.
Made from grapes sourced throughout the cool-climate premium regions of Ballarat, Henty and Geelong, the 2021 Provenance Golden Plains Chardonnay is a classy example with lovely aromas of white flower, stonefruit and subtle cashew. The palate is well weighted and lively, with layers of intense fruit balanced by vibrant acidity, with a well rounded mouthfeel and chalky texture rounding out a beautifully balanced wine.
"94 Points. Fruit from Ballarat, Henty and Geelong. This is pretty swish. Nougat, lime, yellow peach and pineapple flavours mingle with honeysuckle and custard powder-like notes. It's fresh, flavoursome and direct at once, boasting quite serious length through the finish. 12.8% alc. $35. Drink: 2024 - 2030. Screwcap"- Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au.
