97 Points - Philip Rich | Very Limited Stocks
Serrat is the family business of former Yering Station and current Yabby Lake winemaker Tom Carson and partner Nadege Suné. Serrat has 8,800 vines per hectare - more than four times the average density, however their vines carry only a few bunches each. Remarkably, it takes one vine to produce each bottle of Serrat wine; these are genuine, hand-crafted wines of the highest quality.
The 2024 Serrat Chardonnay is a rich, flavoursome example of Yarra Valley Chardonnay with impressive concentration and texture that gives it the approachability to be enjoyed young. Finishing with a remarkable length, this is another superb offering from the talented duo behind Serrat.
"97 Points. Mendoza clone, whole-bunch pressed, natural-yeast fermented and matured in two seasoned 600L French oak barrels and two 500L barrels (one new). Bright green gold. There's a lot going on here from the very first whiff. Aromas of ripe stone fruits, orange blossom, oyster shell and praline lead onto an intense, structured and beautifully balanced palate. No problems drinking this now, but it's worth noting that this will age very well, too. 13% alc. Screwcap. Drink: 2025 - 2032."- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
"This wine is 100% from the Mendoza block of Chardonnay, which was planted in 2007. Natural barrel fermented with full solids in 500 and 600 litre French oak barrels and aged on lees for 11 months. Only addition to this wine is SO2. The 2024 Chardonnay is pure and lifted, citrus blossom and stone fruits, hint of melon and some underlying flint and struck match, typical of our Chardonnays. The palate has added concentration this year and texture, quite richly fruited in fact, but under this layer of texture and concentration there lovely mineral backbone and a polished, yet coiled finish."- Serrat Wines.
