95 Points - Jane Faulkner
Serrat is the family business of former Yering Station and current Yabby Lake winemaker Tom Carson and partner Nadege Suné. Serrat has 8,800 vines per hectare - more than four times the average density, however their vines carry only a few bunches each. Remarkably, it takes one vine to produce each bottle of Serrat wine; these are genuine, hand-crafted wines of the highest quality.
The 2020 Serrat Chardonnay is a rich, flavoursome example of Yarra Valley Chardonnay with impressive concentration and texture that gives it the approachability to be enjoyed young. Finishing with a remarkable length, this is another superb offering from the talented duo behind Serrat.
"95 Points. A very chic chardonnay. It is reserved but soon charms: lemon blossom and dried herbs, grapefruit and lemon, with a shimmer of nougat/lees/oak flavour. The palate is juicy, succulent and its fine line of acidity strings everything together. $45. 13% alc. To 2030. $45"- Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2022.
"This wine is 100% from the Mendoza block of Chardonnay, which was planted in 2007. Barrel fermented with full solids in two 600 litre French oak barrels and aged on lees for 11 months. Only addition to this wine is SO2. The 2020 is quite generously fruited with notes of rockmelon, nectarine and citrus, the palate is pretty coiled and minerally driven at this stage, but there is quite a deal of concentration and texture that will unfurl as the wine gets more time in the bottle. It has a long and polished finish."- Serrat Wines.
