95 Points - James Halliday
Tellurian is undoubtedly one of the rising stars of the acclaimed Heathcote wine region. The 2017 Tellurian Tranter Shiraz is another superb example of Heathcote Shiraz; a wonderfully approachable red wine with excellent weight, some lovely bright red fruit and dark plum flavours and a silky mouthfeel supported by some soft, high quality tannins. Another delicious Tellurian Heathcote Shiraz that will only strengthen the reputation of this winery.
"95 Points. Destemmed, fermented in stainless steel and plastic fermenters, wild-fermented, 12-15 days on skins, with hand or pneumatic plunging, matured in French oak (25% new) for 18 months. The supple, medium-bodied wine delivers its message of purple and black fruits. Totally delicious, as much light to medium-bodied as medium-bodied, its length and aftertaste wholly impressive. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. To 2030. $42" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2021.
"This gets the pitch pretty much perfect. Red and black berried fruits, an infusion of twigs, musk and red licorice aspects and a light coating of mint chocolate. It’s a friendly shiraz but it has the shape and structure to elevate it. It’s inherently well balanced and excellent to drink now, though it will mature well over the medium term. 93 Points Tasted: Dec20 14.5% alc. $40 Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2028" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
"Tranter Shiraz is our flagship wine, a tribute to a pioneering Australian, returned WWI soldier George Edwin Tranter who once owned our lands. First made in 2008, this medium to full-bodied shiraz showcases Heathcote’s trademark minerality, depth of flavor and intensity." - Tellurian Wines
The team at Tellurian headed by the highly acclaimed winemaker, Tobias Ansted, produce some of the region's finest examples of Shiraz. Tellurian's Heathcote Pastiche Shiraz is produced from grapes sourced from the Touhey family vineyard that are blended with Tellurian's own estate vineyard.
Tellurian's flagship 'Tranter' Heathcote Shiraz is produced solely from fruit from their own vineyard on Tranter Road, Toolleen, on the western side of the Mt Camel range. The vineyard is planted on the deep, rich, Cambrian soil for which the region is renowned, and we believe this is a major contributor to the flavour intensity and richness of the wine.
Over the past couple of year's Tellurian's wines have received wide-spread acclaim, firmly establishing themselves as a rising star of the Heathcote wine region.
