While Teusner are well known for their outstanding red wines of the Barossa Valley, they also take advantage of the neighbouring Eden Valley to deliver some wonderful dry Rieslings.
The 2021 Teusner Empress Riesling is a product of a superb Eden Valley vintage, one that Kym Teusner describes as "one of the finest of recent times". This delivers plenty of flavour with a pristine citrus acid line and a fine talc-like quality.
"Eden Valley riesling that is, according to the back label, “Strong. Sensual. Desirable.” Sensual is not a word used to describe riesling all that often, I don’t think, but then I don’t get out much. Lovely flavour here. Maybe a whisper of sweetness to it, maybe not, no matter either way, the burst of lemon-lime-bath-salt-like flavour is the thing. This leaps from the glass both on the nose and on the palate in the most pleasing of ways. Apple and citrus-rind characters add yet more. It’s an excellent option for this coming summer. 92 Points Tasted: Jul21 12.5% alc. $27 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2028+"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
