95 Points - Philip Rich
Toolangi has long been regarded as one of the Yarra Valley's finest wineries, with the wines continuing to reach impressive heights under chief winemaker Kaspar Hermann. Hermann's 'site-first' approach allows the vintage and place to dictate rather than forcing a particular style.
The 2024 Toolangi Paul's Lane Pinot Noir marks the first release of this wine since the 2020 vintage, and again this delivers a luscious and deeply layered Yarra Valley Pinot Noir. Heady, floral scents of rose petals, red cherries and earthy nuances unfold spicy notes and baked earth. Velvet-smooth, long and complete, its vivacious, mouthfilling presence of red cherries, blueberries and damson plum has almost a sour edge at the finish, which extends with power and presence.
"95 Points. 24-year-old MV6 vines. 50/50% whole berries/whole bunches. A bright crimson. Subtle and complex aromas of forest fruits and hedgerow together with some spice and ferrous notes. Medium bodied, this energetic wine fills out nicely across the palate with ripe, juicy tannins and bright acidity keeping this energetic and fresh.”- Philip Rich, The Wine Companion.
