Toolangi has long been regarded as one of the Yarra Valley's finest wineries, with the wines continuing to reach impressive heights under chief winemaker Kaspar Hermann. Hermann's 'site-first' approach allows the vintage and place to dictate rather than forcing a particular style.
The 2024 Toolangi Yarra Valley Chardonnay is a product of an ideal vintage in the Yarra, which deliver good yields of powerful, concentrated fruit. The fruit was whole bunch pressed directly to French oak barriques, puncheons, a foudre (10% new) and a ceramic egg for primary fermentation. Just 10% of the blend underwent malolactic conversion and there was no battonage. The wine rested for 10 months before being bottled. A vibrant and wonderfully balanced Chardonnay this offers plenty of concentrated white peach and grapefruit flavours, which is supported by lovely natural acidity.
“A mix of clones. 10% new oak, 20% mlf. Brightly coloured. Aromas of stone fruits, orange blossom and a hint of spice. The palate is flavoursome, balanced and gently saline. An excellent version of this affordably priced wine. Drink now and over the next 3 - 4 years. 93 points"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
"Tasty wine offering a good volume of flavour. Yellow peach, grapefruit, cedar, aniseed/ mint, a lick of spice. It’s juicy, some lemon zest in with stone fruit and citrus, a fair bit of tang and energy, some flinty bits, and a finish of good length. This is an excellent Chardonnay and it has a certain strike and electric appeal. Lovely. 93 Points. Apr25 13.2% alc. $36 Screwcap Drink: 2025 - 2029+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
