95 Points - James Suckling
Torbreck continues to take advantage of dry-grown, old vines to make some of the Barossa's most demanded wines. Torbreck's The Gask Shiraz is crafted from grapes grown in the cooler climate, higher altitude vineyards of Eden Valley. These elevated sites yield small, intense berries that possess great intensity of flavour without sacrificing balance and poise. Heroic in style, it still retains the cooler edge and tighter structure that make the great wines from Eden Valley famous.
Soft and elegant the 2020 Torbreck The Gask offers up aromas of plum and eucalypt, whilst concentrated fruit gives the wine an ink-like hue. The generous palate displays notes of freshly crushed blackberry and graphite, giving way to a tightly wound tannin profile. Aged in seasoned French oak barriques this is a wine to appreciate now but will also benefit from 5 to 10 years in the cellar.
"95 Points. A tight red with blackberry, crushed stone, iron, and wet earth aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied, firm and silky tannins with bright fruit and a fresh finish. Linear at the end. Closed now. Drinkable but give it time. Better after 2025."- James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, October 2022.
