Torbreck continues to take advantage of dry-grown, old vines to make some of the Barossa's most demanded wines. Torbreck's The Gask Shiraz is crafted from grapes grown in the cooler climate, higher altitude vineyards of Eden Valley. These elevated sites yield small, intense berries that possess great intensity of flavour without sacrificing balance and poise. Heroic in style, it still retains the cooler edge and tighter structure that make the great wines from Eden Valley famous.
Soft and elegant the 2019 Torbreck The Gask offers up aromas of plum and eucalypt, whilst concentrated fruit gives the wine an ink-like hue. The generous palate displays notes of freshly crushed blackberry and graphite, giving way to a tightly wound tannin profile. Aged in seasoned French oak barriques this is a wine to appreciate now but will also benefit from 5 to 10 years in the cellar.
"From a single vineyard. Matured 18 months in second-fill French oak barriques. The depth of colour of Ian Hongell's shiraz is something to behold, embodied in this deep, vibrant purple thing. Signature Eden Valley blackberries, mixed spice and violets with an undercurrent of pronounced, fine tannins and tangy, bright acidity. Promises to hold long and strong in the cellar. 93 Points. 14.5% alc. Drink by 2039. Cork." - Tyson Stelzer, winecompanion.com.au.
