"Mighty good wine for this price"- Ray Jordan (RRP $28)
Over several decades, Voyager Estate has established itself as a star of Margaret River wine, consistently delivering benchmark examples of the region's famous Cabernet Sauvignon.
Produced from Voyager Estate's sustainably and organically farmed vineyards, the 2020 Voyager Estate 'Girt By Sea' Cabernet Merlot is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (30%) and a splash of Cabernet Franc (2%). Fermented separately, once pressed the wine was matured in French oak for 12 months prior to being blended, filtered and bottled.
The result is an impressive example of this popular regional style; beautifully structured, the medium-bodied palate offers plenty of cassis, dark chocolate, plum and liquorice flavours. Supported by subtle French oak, the fine tannins have perfectly integrated with the quality fruit over time. A Margaret River Cabernet that's drinking superbly, this delivers fantastic value-for-money at this discounted price (RRP $28).
“94 Points. Mighty good wine for this price. In fact, it’s better than that. Clearly the vintage has influenced this wine because it was a cracker in Margaret River. But the mature gravelly vineyards of the Steven’s Valley also contribute. It shows as a bright and lively red berry character supported by fine chalky tannins and well-managed oak integration. Balanced and poised in its more medium bodied style, this is perfectly suited for drinking over the next few years. Strike up the barbie. $28. Drink: 2022 - 2029.”- Ray Jordan, winepilot.com.
