96 Points - James Halliday
As one of Margaret River's most highly acclaimed wineries, the wines of Voyager Estate rarely fail to impress. This newly released 2018 Voyager Estate Shiraz is another brilliant example of the lofty heights Margaret River Shiraz is capable of reaching.
The palate is silky textured with plenty of sweet red, black cherry fruits with hints of spice, nougat and fine tannins. Offering lovely purity and fleshy concentration, while retaining the finesse that is the hallmark of the Voyager style. While this is a wine with a long life ahead of it, it's pretty irresistible now.
"96 Points. For some (not myself) the jury is still out in deciding just how far Margaret River shiraz has still to travel before drawing the proverbial line in the sand. Yes, it's more elegant, and arguably less complex than cabernet or cabernet with little tricks in the wrapping of its parcel. But is that a bad thing? The answer is emphatically no for this whole berry-vinified wine that spent 15 days on skins, then 12 months in 34% new oak. Its savoury characters are, quite simply, brilliant. $38. 14% alc. Drink by 2033. Screwcap" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2021.
