Wild Duck Creek is a highly acclaimed, family-owned and operated winery in Victoria's Heathcote wine region. Founded by winemaker David 'Duck' Anderson in the late 1970's, Wild Duck Creek received international attention when their 1997 'Duck Muck' was awarded a 99 point review by American wine critic Robert Parker. This Parker review propelled Wild Duck Creek on to the world stage, while also significantly raising the profile of the Heathcote wine region.
Wild Duck Creek's 2024 Red Duck is a blend of Heathcote Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, with each variety harvested and vinified separately. Bright, easygoing and seriously drinkable, this Heathcote red bursts out of the glass with juicy red berries, a splash of plum and a little spicy warmth. It’s got that trademark Wild Duck Creek generosity, but in a lighter, more laid-back style; smooth, soft and just really fun to drink. Think ripe fruit, gentle spice and a touch of savoury earthiness tying it all together.
"93 Points. 56/ 37/ 7% grenache/ shiraz/ mataro; harvested and vinified separately, 16 months' maturation in seasoned French and American oak. Well priced and well assembled, with a full expression of Heathcote generosity on show. A deep sense of ripe red and black fruits with blood plums and black cherries in the lead, framed in beautiful, lively spices, anise, chocolate, earth and briar. The palate is built around a mellow, open-knit structure, giving full voice to the plummy, spiced flavour. Supple, earthy tannins to close. Great value. 14.4% alc. $30. Drink: 2025 - 2031. Screw cap"- Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion.
