98 Points - Philip Rich
Dry Red No 1 is Yarra Yering's Cabernet blend, or as the winery describes it, "a classic claret-style". This 2024 Yarra Yering Dry Red No 1 is comprised of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (16%), Malbec (11%) and Petit Verdot (3%).
Always one of the most sought-after premium wine releases of the year, the newly released 2024 Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 has been in hot demand and we expect our very limited further stocks to sell quickly. This is an incredibly elegant, medium-bodied wine; the palate shows power and restraint at the same time, the iron fist in a velvet glove. Beautiful fruit, a bright acid drive and tannins that form a solid foundation for the long future. Brooding but not intimidating, this will be exciting to watch evolve.
"98 Points. A blend of 70/ 16/ 11/ 3% cabernet sauvignon/ merlot/ malbec/ petit verdot, the cabernet coming from the original '69-planted vineyard. Matured in barrique (35% new). A pure and focused bouquet of pure cassis, gravel and subtle cedar. Equally impressive on the concentrated yet elegant palate. The fine-grained, persistent tannins are in perfect harmony with the fruit. Seamless. A great Dry Red No. 1 in very fine form; a wine that will age effortlessly over the next decade, if not two. $165. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2026 - 2036. Screwcap"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
"96 Points. The 2024 vintage of Dry Red Wine No. 1 is a blend of: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% merlot, 11% malbec and 3% petit verdot. This is a beautiful release. It’s classically styled, classically structured and classically long. It tastes of bay and blackcurrant, cedar and olives, plums and assorted dried leaves. It’s autumnal, sweet with fruit, fresh, mouthwatering and satisfying at once. The length of the finish here, pulsed with dusty tannin, is a magic to behold in itself. This is one of those “beauty lives here” wines. Tasted: March 26. 13.5% alc. $160. Screwcap. Drink: 2030 - 2039+"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
