BlackJack is a winery we've long had a soft spot for and one with a large, loyal following. Based in the Harcourt Valley in the Bendigo wine region of Central Victoria, Blackjack produce unashamedly old-school styles of red wine; full of rich flavours, quality oak influence and loads of charm.
This 2024 Blackjack Block 6 Shiraz is another full-bodied rendition of Bendigo Shiraz brimming with dark fruits, raspberry and cherry with a nice savouriness in support. Some good quality French oak influence adds further complexity to this Shiraz that will delivery high quality drinking for well over the next decade.
"93 Points. Shiraz in the doldrums with drinkers? Not with a Shiraz like this. This little beauty brings all of its Central Victorian deliciousness to the glass - a free flowing, easy going, Aussie style built upon a solid fruit foundation with little obvious artefact. And, yes, there is balance, which is very much a Block 6 strong point. Ripe plum, black fruits meet chocolate, spice and concentrated aniseed-blackstrap liquorice, and it’s a warm-hearted, elegance that results. The palate is built around a solid core of fine tannins, carrying flavours long. Definitely hard to stop at just one glass. $42. Drink by: 2026-2037"- Jeni Port, Wine Pilot.
