95 Points - Philip Rich
Rob Hall was a winemaker at the esteemed Mount Mary vineyard for over 10 vintages, and during that time it's safe to assume he gained great insight into how to make top class Yarra Valley wine. After departing Mount Mary, Rob Hall launched his eponymous label, with a focus on making Yarra Valley varietals to be enjoyed in their youth at a very reasonable price point.
Inspired by the great Cabernets that made the Yarra Valley famous, this 2024 Rob Hall Cabernets is crafted from Cabernet and Merlot, with the grapes picked slightly riper to maximise drinkability. Offering lovely aromas of dark red fruit, chocolate notes and subtle spice, this is a lovely, medium-bodied Yarra Valley red wine with plenty of flavour, silky tannin while retaining freshness.
"95 Points. A blend of 55/43/2% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/ malbec. 16–20 days on skins and matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright, medium crimson red. Another very well-made, ridiculously priced cabernet blend from Rob Hall. Aromas of cassis, cedar and a touch of violets lead onto the medium-bodied, well-balanced and already delicious palate. $30. Drink: 2025 - 2031. Screwcap."- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
