98 Points - James Halliday | Very Limited Stocks
West Cape Howe was founded in 1997 and fast established itself as one of Western Australia's best-known wineries. Having acquired some of the state's oldest vineyards over the years, West Cape Howe has access to some of the highest quality grapes in the Great Southern wine region.
The 2018 West Cape Howe King Billy Cabernet Sauvignon is a flagship example of Great Southern Cabernet, which despite several years age still displays amazing freshness and vibrancy on the nose. There's great intensity on the palate with plenty of dark berry, ripe blackcurrant fruit flavours, whilst still displaying the finesse and freshness the Mt Barker region is known for. A beautifully integrated and balanced cool-climate Cabernet, this limited release (only 125 dozen made) still has many years of enjoyment ahead of it.
"98 Points. 2018 was an exceptional vintage, and King Billy is a very limited production (125 dozen) for the best wine of the vintage. Deeply coloured and still youthful, this is indeed a great cabernet sauvignon. The one curiosity is the price, about half what I expected. It's all cedar and silk, blackcurrant fruit studded with ripe though discreet tannins. Drink: 2024 - 2028. 14.5% alc. $55. Screwcap."- James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2025.
