As the site of the first grape plantings in Western Australia's Great Southern region, Forest Hill is one of the pioneers of cool-climate winemaking in WA. Forest Hill's collection of Estate wines are always impressive and deliver remarkable value drinking.
A lovely deep purple in colour, the 2021 Forest Hill Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon offers classic blackberry, dark chocolate, bay leaf and a touch of lavender on the nose. The concentrated and supple palate delivers superb balance with the dark chocolate, spice and dark berry fruit supported by lovely fine tannin and a long textured finish.
"92 Points. A portion of malbec makes its way into this wine. From older plantings on the Forest Hill vineyard. This is smooth and mellow, quite rich and round with a slew of cassis, lavender, dark chocolate, salted licorice and clove/cinnamon spice going on. The bouquet is full and potent, evocative and inviting, if not warm. The flavour profile is deep and concentrated, supple in texture with that cassis and dark chocolate at the fore. Quite a bit of woody, resinous seasoning here, too, but the overall feel suggests balance is nigh. Should mature well. Screwcap. $35. 14% alc. Drink: 2023 - 2035"- Mike Bennie, winecompanion.com.au.
