Paul Scorpo produces some truly superb fruit from his meticulously planted vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. Scorpo Wines has built a reputation for making some of the Peninsula’s finest examples of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The 2024 Scorpo Aubaine Chardonnay is another exceptional example of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay opening with lifted aromatics of white peach, juicy pear, granny smith apples and spice on the nose. The palate starts lean with vibrant lemon/ grapefruit leading to more generous melon with vanilla undertones. It has a lemon purity to the fruit with a rind like textural grip providing a nice firm structure and integrating nicely with the oak. With a fine chalky finish, there is some lovely fruit weight that fills the mouth with flavours that linger nice and long, carried by some delicate natural acidity.
"94 Points. It’s in classic Scorpo Chardonnay style, which means richness and power, with a firm cut of ripe grapefruity acidity, albeit with no noticeable struck match. Nectarine, honey, a little biscuit spice, mint and assorted citrus. with a sort of salted butter and nutty/miso umami savouriness, plenty of gloss, some flintiness to texture, oatmeal and spice on a finish of excellent length. A bold style, though with no shortage of energy. Tasted: Jan24. 13.5% alc. $40 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2025 - 2030"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
